Meet Vandana Shiva, who is an Indian scholar, environmental activist, eco-feminist and anti-globalization author. She is a scholar and an activist with over 20 books in her repertoire.
Shiva has worked to promote biodiversity in agriculture to increase productivity, nutrition, farmer’s incomes. In 2003, she was recognized as an ‘environmental hero’ by #time magazine.
She is an advocate for sustainable and productive approach to agriculture. Her arguments are that by reinstating the system of farming in India that is more centered on engaging women, removing the prevalent “patriarchal logic of exclusion,” will lead to an industrial revamp to a woman-focused system. Shiva also believes that ecological destruction and industrial catastrophes threaten people daily, and the subsequent problems become women’s responsibility. Women and their contributions to farming should be a central conversation piece to the Indian Farmer’s Protest that happened in India, the world’s largest democracy. The protests led to India’s agricultural law changes in favor of the farmers.
