Jackie Mitchell

Jackie Mitchell who struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gerhrig in succession. She was 17. She was one of few women who played baseball in the 40s and 50s.

Some of the women include 19 year old Connie Morgan played for two years, 1954-55, with the Indianapolis Clowns. She was a second basewoman. Toni Stone, was another woman to play in the Negro Leagues. Pitcher Mamie “Peanuts” Johnson was a well-known woman baseball player; she gained her nickname because of her small size but she threw as hard as her male counterparts.

Black women, along as Black men, played professional sports in the Negro Leagues (created because of segregation). ⚾️
